There's been very good progress made on the Augen Gentouch. Clockwork recovery has been ported over by TheDude on XDA Developers, with Nandroid backup reported to be fully functional. It will also be configured into ROM Manager later, which is a front-end application that allows users to flash the custom recovery image and custom ROMs easily. This paves the way for ROM customization and development.

Typical features of clockwork recovery:
Features of the recovery image include Nandroid backup, adb shell, mount USB storage, advanced update.zip options (ignore asserts and signature checks), and file browser (so you can place your zips in subdirectories and organize them).
Read the details on the Augen Gentouch development thread on XDA developers. We also started a thread on the topic here, where some of our members may be able to answer your questions.

we all know getting a custom recovery is the first step towards custom roms. can't wait to see CM6 on this!

I really don't know about CM6 any time soon, but getting the features of CM5 partially ported would be plenty good already.
