Charging tablet via USB

I just noticed my tablet charges slowly when connected via USB to a PC: it went from 15% to 80% in about 2 hours, even though it says "Not charging".

I am quite happy about this because many people have said that tablets cannot be charged via USB and need the power adapter.

It depends on the tablet. Some require more voltage than the 5v that the USB ports output, and some don't care much one way or the other. The important thing is that it's working for you.

Do any of you have ICS Battery usage data showing on your tablet? Mine's always not available:

Hello Friend,

I think you have to replace your battery because even I faced the same problem in the past.

Does your ICS 4.0.3 tablet show battery usage details? I Googled it, and I hear this is a ICS bug that is not fixed yet.

The battery is fine: it charges quickly and holds the charge for a very decent amount of time when charged by the power adapter.
I was interested in the charging status when connected via USB; does your tablet charge via USB?

Not certain why or how but go to the Google Store and install Badass Battery Monitor to see if it give any results.

Thanks! Other than the name (I may use my tablet for company presentations, etc. so a name like Badass may not be perceived well. Lol.) this is a great tool.

Just an fyi that early builds of ICS did have that bug that didn't show usage. It was fixed in subsequent builds by some manufacturers. Maybe yours is coming...

Badass Battery accounts for only 12% of usage. What drained the other 73% of the battery?

Edit:
Could this be why monitoring was incomplete? Something (Android?) is killing it every couple of hours...

I think we have moved to a slightly different subject, one of what drains the battery. I have, through some experiments, determined that there are quite a few apps that want to run rather than suspend in the background. If you allow your tablet to sleep and it's doing something while sleeping that's draining the battery you could try installing Auto Airplane Mode (by DON) from the Google Store. Some apps will override that app like music apps and open browser windows (with some browsers). You can hold the power button long enough for a restart to clear much of that out.

That would cut off all radios. So when the tablet comes out of sleep mode, there will be a slew of updates for email, etc.
I'll try it out.

JuiceDefender does something similar, but with options to periodically turn the radios on to pick up email, etc.
