I can get my tablet to use an external drive with no problems but I am looking for a mini size disk for travelling - say 1.8" or 2.5" that is NOT powered from the USB.
The idea is to save power on the tablet.
I am in the UK but anyone who has seen anything like this please let me know and I'll see if I can find a supplier in the UK.
I've searched the net but many links are extremely old and sometimes refer to a storage device for photography to copy SD to the HD and I want something simpler (and cheaper).
Thanks

Note for Admin folks - any chance of a hardware forum for attachements - could be split into
USB stick
External disk
Keyboard/Mice
Wifi (for those that are not onboard)
TV adapters (TV in/TV out/USB)
GPS (for those that are not on board)
etc.
Would be really helpful if tablet independent.

I run my Gateway A60 (Acer A500) using Li-Ion battery packs designed for CCTVs. Variations can output 5V, 9V and 12V. I use them not only to run my tablet but run many other items from water purification equipment to LED lights. Anyways I was planning to use one to power (when required) a Seagate hard drive (and others). Some drives run on 12 VDC. Anyways, it's maybe an option you can look into.
