Bought a new Allwinner 9" Android 4 tablet in August. All fine till last week. Switched it on and when it got to the green man android screen it froze. Tried to reset to factory by pressing volume and power but nothing happens. It seems the machine will not fully shut down to allow this. New to tablets, please help.

Read the sticky posts. If you have a pin hole reset then you can try that out.
What tablet do you own? Was USB Debugging on? I think Off? heh? As adb setup could help you out.

If it is not turning off allow the battery to completely run down then plug it into a running PC for 5+ hours then try turning it on.

Many Android devices and other computers can be forced to power down by pressing and holding the power button. This typically takes at least a 5 second button press. Try holding it longer if 5 seconds does not work.

Thanks for reply. Tried pinhole reset, tablet shuts down restarts but freezes in same place.

Did you try holding the power button for 5 seconds until the screen turns off as was suggested? If the screen turns off, the tablet is off.

From this off state try this. With the tablet off press the pinhole reset. Then press and hold the vol + button. While holding this button, Press and hold the power button until the recovery screen appears. If this combo doean't work, try vol- and power.

In order for your tablet to reset properly to the factory settings, you need to know the correct sequence and combination of "presses" and "holds". All models are different. If you can't find that info posted on the net and if the manufacturer won't help, then you're out of luck.
