The good points of this tablet are:

  • The battery life seems good – we were testing it for around 2 hours and we only lost 25%. In this time we were downloading apps constantly, connected to wifi and surfing the net and playing games. Pretty good!
  • The screen is very high quality and the tablet looks and feels expensive and new and generally very good.
The bad points are the compatibility from the box; in the state they’re being sent to us as of today the list of ‘popular’ apps that don’t work is hilarious.

  • WhatsApp
  • Viber
  • iPlayer
  • ITV Player
  • SkyGo
  • 4od website (sometimes worked, sometimes crashed???)
  • Netflix
  • Twitter

Even TV Catchup sometimes cuts out! (We are UK based so we can’t test/aren’t familiar with US TV apps)
So firmware is definitely needed, and most likely you the buyer will have to manually install this, so maybe a risk of bricking your tablet.

Compared to the Sanei N10, the Ampe A10 comes up slightly better off in AnTuTu Benchmarking software with a score of 2956 vs the Sanei at 2767. However we still managed to overload the CPU fairly easily just by making selections a bit quicker and loading some media content. But running the two equally equipped tablets side by side you do notice the Ampe A10 is slightly faster.

Normally we might conclude a review like this by saying ‘don’t expect an iPad for 1/4 of the price’, and this is no exception. If you’re in the market for an entry level 10.1 inch then buy it, it’s better than the Sanei N10, but don’t expect miracles.

have this tablet, but need to replace charger - do you know the size of the jack on this charger?

The jack diameter is 2.5mm, the most important thing is the output though. It must be 5V -- 2A. If its more it will damage the tablet, less and it won't charge.

We have some some Ampe A10 chargers, you can buy one from us for £6 with free UK delivery. If you're in the US or elsewhere it would cost too much to deliver maybe.
