Please help me speed up my WM8650

I own a 7" WM8650 tablet. I'm new to the Android Operating System, and would like to speed my tablet up if possible. I just seem to have more questions the more I read. From what I understand, I should root it. But won't that just allow me access to protected files? Will this speed it up any? Are there roms I should install? and How do I back up my tablet to ensure I won't brick it?

My tablet has a blue LED when power is on (red when charging) and a green headphone jack. I purchased it a t Chinabuy.com. Here is the link (http://www.**************/7-touch-sc...ort-flash-10-1)

    model number: WonderMedia WM8650
    Android Version: 2.2
    Kernel Version: 2.632.9-default
    Build Number: generic-eng 2.2 Froyo v1.1.1-20110308.162514

Any help on speeding this thing up would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anyone who bothers replying.

Wink Speed up a WM8650 based device

I import android wm8650 based devices into South Africa and had recently been informed that Ekken, the manufacturer of the devices and also OED had released much newer firmware. After downloading the firmware, I found a 20% speed increase. Surf on over to ekken.com - llantas 17 Resources and Information.
