Spoofing US Location for App Store

Hello all.

I'm in Afghanistan. My family sent me a flashy new Android tablet to play with. So after finding an internet signal, I tried downloading Apps from home.


The problem was, US apps don't download overseas!


So:


I loaded up a VPN back to the states, no dice.


I turned off all of the GPS location, Wifi location options, no dice.


I set the clock to Eastern Standard Time, no dice.


I installed a GPS spoofer and located myself in America, no dice.


Any and all combinations of the above fail.


What gives? How does Google know I'm here?

You say you located an Internet signal but not who the IP is. Have you considered that maybe your IP is the one blocking you?

Edit: if the chinese can, and do, do it anyone can.

VPN tunnels circumvent local ISP blocks.

Even so, the Market works fine on the local ISP w/o any trickery. This problem only exists for US only application downloads.

Examples: Pandora, Google Earth.

Tongue in cheek suggestion, send the tablet back to the States and have the apps downloaded and installed there!

0.o There's gotta be a better solution, in a "hacking" forum, than "give up and play by the rules."

Not sure that "hacking" will solve your problem. I have an Amazon Account in Several countries, including the USA, but I cannot download any apps from the Amazon App store, so I say s***w them I can get apps from anywhere else including SlideME | Android Apps Market: Download Free & Paid Android Applications

You can try:
- Market Enabler: it fakes a cell carrier so Google thinks your tablet is from some country (use an USA carrier in your case, of course). Needs root enabled
- Use a 3rd party apps market like GetJar (lots of cool free stuff), 1Mobile or the already mentioned SlideMe.
