Dell Streak Coming This Friday, August 13

The Dell Streak is coming. Most can get the device directly from Dell starting on August 13.

Here are the details from Dell's Lionel Menchaca from the Direct2Dell blog:

• AT&T will be the carrier for customers in the United States.
• Pricing: $299.99 with new two-year AT&T contract, and $549.99 without.
• Customers who register for the pre-sale will be able to order a Dell Streak this Thursday August 12.
• Dell Streak will go on sale to the general public beginning this Friday.

The first devices will still ship with Android 1.6, with Android 2.2 on the way. Optional accessories include a car kit for $39.99, and a Home Audio/ Video Dock with HDMI for $69.99.

I wish they could have lowered the price on this just a bit more Also, not shipping with at least 2.1 is pretty sad.

You can't make less expensive Snapdragon tablet right now.

At 5" this is the smallest size I'd call a tablet. Still it's not bad for what it is. Once they get Android 2.2, I hope they will be pushing the marketing more heavily. The hardware is sorely underutilized.

Its more like a hybrid smartphone/tablet but appears to be more smartphone. If one classifies this as a smartphone, it is pretty expensive when one can purchase a Droid Incredible or HTC Evo (both with QSD8650 Snapdragon processors & Android 2.1) for less than $200 in the US. Also, AT&T does not have a great network.
