Accidentally booted to "recovery mode"

Was having trouble with my touchscreen not seeming to work. I suspected it was due to some app that I must have installed since it either didn't work at all or worked fine. In trying to find some way to reboot into a "safe mode" or something, I managed to reboot and get the message "Recovery mode" under the android logo. The tablet then rebooted and nowmost of the apps I have installed won't run, upon boot up I get a pile of services forceclose messages.

It seems to me that something was reset, like perhaps I've lost root and now all of those apps don't have the right premissions or something?

Any help?

I'm wondering if i can just use ADB to copy all my apps and data off and then do some sort of factory reset?
