Android 4.0 WI-FI won't work- please help!

I cannot connect my tablet to my home wireless broadband, eventhough my laptop does connect to it. I think that my tablet might have something wrong with it. If someone could give me some tips on how to resolve this problem it would really help!

I have a link, below, with tips for WiFi problems. Just because everything else connects it isn't safe to assume an Android tablet will, without a change or 2 to the router.

Help please. I bought a smasung galaxy 8.9 tablet for my grandchild in SA GT P7310 have loaded books and songs etc. While connected to KIes today it informed me there wa a firmware update and I said yes to download etc. Took ages and then said unplug and restart device. problem is not the screen is just thin coloured stripes which just scroll. I cannot do anything with it or see anything. I fly out to SA in the morning. What do you think has happened and what can I do?
