Android 3.0 Sample Tablets Available by Dec. '10

    9:00 PM - October 20, 2010 by Jane McEntegart - source: Tom's Hardware US

If these rumors are to be believed Android 3.0 is all but finished and we'll see tablets running the OS at the beginning of January.

We already know that Android 3.0, AKA Gingerbread, is supposed to hit before the year is out, but other than that, we don't know much else. This week Phandroid changed all that, revealing that users can expect built-in support for video calling; increased speed; a cleaner, greener (in color) UI; improvements to Google Apps, which should make them feel more like an extension of the OS rather than just apps; and the Google Voice app is getting SIP support so you can receive calls to your Google Voice number over WiFi and cellular data.
That all sounds very wonderful, but Phandroid's sources gave no indication as to when we would actually see Gingerbread. However, Digitimes seems to believe Gingerbread samples will hit by December.
The Taiwan-based site today cites sources from notebook vendors who say Google has notified its partners that Android 3.0 will be finished and engineer sample tablets will show up in December. It's with this time frame in mind that several major electronics manufacturers are planning to launch their Android 3.0 tablets at CES 2011, in January. According to Digitimes we'll see Android 3.0 devices from Acer, Asus, MSI, HTC and Motorola. Also expected to make an appearance is an Android 3.0-updated Galaxy Tab from Samsung.
That's all they had to say about Android 3.0, but they also mentioned that Android 4.0 (Ice Cream) would hit in the second half of 2011, something we didn’t know before. Digitimes sources say they think the OS will be able to gradually increase its marketshare in the tablet market once Android 3.0 is launched.

Android 3.0: The First Tablets Will Arrive in December

Posted on October 21, 2010 by preto

[IMG]It seems that Android wll release in december the first tablets with Android 3.0.This new operating system Android 3.0 will be great and I am sure that it will overcome Windows Phone 7.Colleagues from Digitime, citing sources close to notebook manufacturers seem confident that we will see the first engineering sample of tablet-based Android 3.0 by next December. For the launch of the final versions, however, it will wait a bit ‘, presumably at CES at least until 2011, when we can get its hands on the VITAMIN version of the Gingerbread Samsung Galaxy rumor Table I indicate that companies involved in the upcoming launch of the giants such as Acer, ASUS and MSI, that the ESC should position their products “together with those of the usual big names in the mobile sector as HTC and Motorola. The first tablets with Android 3.0 will come in december.
Android 3.0 will overcome the new Windows Phone 7.We are not able to tell you, though, if this list of companies is the result of new rumors Digitime or simply picked up by a reassembly of the preceding items. Version 4.0 of Android (Ice Cream) will be out probably by mid 2011, the producers hope to be influential in the market for tablet already with the next version 3.0, even if Steve Jobs had predicted the opposite, namely that we should wait still many months before you see the products truly competitive with the iPad. In all this hubbub, the big loser appears to be Microsoft, as Windows is between five and six times more expensive in terms of a license on the tablet compared to Android, while the difference between the Intel chip and the ARM is about $ 30 .I can’t wait to see the new Android 3.0.
