antivirus necessary

New member with a new Acer A500 running Honeycomb 3.2. Is an antivirus program necessary and if so which one should I download? Usage is 95% email & surfing internet from home & public wifi.
Thanks for any info on other important downloads I might need.

No antivirus needed.

You install apps only from the google market or the amazon market and you will be fine.

No one has even ONE documented case of any antivirus product for Andorid ever detecting even a single android virus or malware from the market.

Lookout Mobile Security has some other features that make it worth while, such as the ability to find your lost/stolen phone.

There are free anti-malware apps available on the markets if you feel you need one. I'm using Lookout on mine with no apparent performance issues.

+1for Lookout is one of the most used security application out there. The free version should be more that you need.

Antivirus pro ... it works great i put it on all my android devices, phone/tablet... i can send y the apk. For the pro version..just send me an email and ill send it to u....

How do you know it works?

IF you root your device and allow unsigned apps to run without knowign the source, then you run a risk sicne you took the risk.

IF you run stock and don't allow unverified apps to run there is zero need for an antivirus app, which will have no purpose and just slow you down.
