Archos recently unveiled the ChefPad, a 9.7-inch Android tablet designed to act as a cooking assistant, with an easy-to-clean protective case and apps for preparing food.

Archos has made a name for itself by producing a wide range of budget-friendly smart devices, from smartphones to gaming tablets, but now it has its sights set on your kitchen. The French company recently unveiled its new ChefPad, a 9.7-inch Android tablet designed to act as a cooking assistant, with an easy-to-clean protective case and kitchen-centric apps.
The ChefPad is equipped with a few notable features geared towards kitchen use, such as a splash-resistant silicone case with an adjustable stand. It also comes with the Chef's Apps tool pre-installed, which sifts through Google Play's extensive library of apps to sort a variety of content into simple categories, like recipes, drinks, shopping, diet, cooking TV, etc. With 2-megapixel cameras mounted front and back, users can also video chat while they cook or share their meals after plating up.
At it's core though, the ChefPad is still a tablet with some decent specs, especially considering its US$209.99 price tag. The tablet runs Android 4.1 and is powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor with a quad-core GPU and packs 1 GB of RAM. Its 9.7-inch display boasts 1024 x 768 resolution, and the device comes with 8 GB of storage space, which can be expanded via a microSD slot. Archos has also included its Media Center suite of apps, so users can catch up on their TV shows or listen to music while whipping up a tasty dish.
Archos' new tablet is unlikely to appeal to professional chefs, but novice home cooks may appreciate its focus on kitchen use. None of the tablet's features will prevent that touch screen from looking like a grease-smeared Jackson Pollock painting after one intensive cooking session, however.
Archos plans to release the ChefPad this June through its official website for $209.99.
