ASUS is moving quickly to dominate the Android tablet market with their new Eee Pad Transformer, but the tech-giant is "taking a breather" just yet. In fact, it appears they are ratcheting up their competitive edge, by kicking things into high gear for the future. They are already hard at work on a Quad-Core "Kal-El" nVidia Tegra3 Tablet that will probably also be Android based. Furthermore, they are designing an Intel Atom based solution as well.

If they can crank these out at an amazing price-point like their current lineup, and Honeycomb can get some refinements at the same time, then their momentum may be enough to topple the iPad sometime next year. Of course, they do need to tackle their supply issues as well... What do you guys think?

Nvidia has not officially announced Tegra 3 yet. Per Qualcomm's press release

Qualcomm News and Events - Press Releases

    .........................

“With its WiFi integration and ability to seamlessly interface with Qualcomm’s 3G and LTE modules, the APQ8064 will provide OEM’s with a flexible, cost efficient and fast time to market platform that can meet all of their design configuration needs for tablets and next generation computing and consumer electronic devices.”

The APQ8064 processor will include the Adreno 320 quad-core GPU, which will deliver fifteen times greater performance than the original Adreno GPU, for a console-quality gaming experience, as well as rendering rich UI’s. With up to 20 Megapixel camera support, the APQ8064 will internally synchronize two camera sensors for 3D video recording and will support external 3D video playback.

The APQ8064 will feature a variety of features that make it the most compelling processing solution for use in mobile entertainment and computing devices, including support for both PCDDR3 and LPDDR2 memory, serial and PCIe interfaces and multiple USB ports.

As part of the next generation Snapdragon family, the APQ8064 will share a core set of features, including a quad-combo of connectivity solutions (i.e. WLAN, GPS, BT and FM), support for NFC and stereoscopic 3D (S3D) video and photo capture and playback. The APQ8064 also will support all available major operating systems and be software compatible across the chipset family.

Samples of the APQ8064 are anticipated to be available in early 2012.

We will see who can get to the market first the next round. Tegra 3 will not have a 3G/4G ability for sure. However Nvidia's Tegra 2 got the market faster.

Whether you like Asus or not it's good news. It will pressure others to do the same. I can see $200 dual-core Tegras by Xmas.

I doubt good quality Android tablets will cut price anytime soon. Otherwise they lost money on every unit sold. Apple IPAD2 will continue to outsell every new entrant. Those early Tegra 2 entrants like "Viewsonic" will have to cut price for sure. Its G tablet does not have great touch screen or display glass, etc. But the main price point is not Tegra 2 CPU. Nvidia can cut the price on its CPU. However "capacetative touch screen", "LG display glass", "3 MP camera and above", "flash memory", etc price will not cut at all. In fact those manufacturers may raise the price for high demand supplies.

    We will see.

ASUS appears to be trying to leead the pack, and they appear to be do a good job at it. Now if they will only come out with a 7-8" tablet their share would rocket even further. (Add GPS and it would be the ultimate tablet to date.)

The above is the Nvidia Tegra 3 demo. Plus Nvidia just bought Icera to get into the baseband modem area.

Sorry. There are no "delete" function I can find to delete the previous two posts.
