Battery Life - There is some interesting discussion going around about how to extend.

the Acer A500 battery.
One discussion says to place the tablet is Airplane mode (which turns off wifi)
and then specifically turn wifi back on.
The wisdom (if not yet substantiated) is that is turns of phone cell phone search activity.

Namely, the phone.apk and the telephonyprovider.apk processes (I think apk's are install pkgs. but also effectively running processes, not sure)

Some have "rooted" the A500 device (surprising not so difficult to do) and then explicitly renamed each of the two APK's mentioned above as .bak.
Effectively turning them off and supposedly extending each battery life cycle of the tablet.

There are some serious cautions to be observed if this is attempted. Ref. How To Root An Acer Iconia A500 - xda-developers

Some battery stats to consider:

device on 4 hours 13m and 88% batt remaining
display percentage (set to auto) used 47%
wifi 20%
idle 17%

How did you measure these stats? Are you actually USING the tablet (music, movie, reading, surfing, etc) or it's just sitting on the desk while it's idling?

update on Battery Usage.

I have only been using the tablet low/moderate (whatever that means)

at 2 days 2 hr 31m = have 39% batt left.
tablet idle = 35%
display = 29%
WiFi = 28%
Android OS = 6%
Mediaserver = 2%

(stats found under settings|about tablet)

Running in Airplane Mode with WiFi turned back on.
Has not been powered off
Tablet has been rooted and phone and telephone apks have been renamed

played some music, flash, games, web videos.
not heavy usage. I'm not trying not to use it. just busy with other stuff.
