There really is no reason to root it. It gives you full access to system files and the ability to destroy it. Or as they say, brick it.

As the old IT saying goes, just because you can do something, does not mean you should do something.

4 gig is a lot of space, but on these the system takes up 1gig, so you hav about 3 gigs for storage.

I'd say that is enough space for about 20 apps and about 1000 MP3's encoded at 128k.
