Can deactivated Tablet be rooted?

My Tablet was stolen, and when I notified B&N they said it would be deactivated. I also had a lock code on it. Can the person who picked it up and hasn't returned it root it, or is a brick?

depends on the tablet and the person who has it. a lock code only keeps newbies out, doesn't stop any one else though.
