Can you help me get Android Market working?

I have rooted my COBY MID7015 using the Newbie Friendly guide. The android OS is apparently working well, with two exceptions. Android Market's GUI will launch but not display any apps, the store appears to be empty. Also, the Leaves on Water animated desktop theme displays black geometric shapes instead of leaves. I don't care about the eye candy, just a stable OS and the Android Market.

What would you suggest that I do?
