I got the same $20 Bracketron Grip It as efidol. It works great. My problem is screen glare in the car. It's beautiful at night, but I can't see the screen at all during a sunny day.

How do you keep it on the window? I have found that if the glass is cold or dirty, it will fall off. And stay totally away from the glass on older cars. You also have to be careful of how much weight it is holding, because vibrations or bumps will cause the suction cup to come off, and the screen definitely doesn't like hitting the shifter knob on the way to the floor.

I have considered making my own mount with a socket permanently stuck (sticky pads) to the top of the shelf and an arm that will reach to the edge of the shelf.

I do one of two things - in a pinch I find the form factor to the S7 lends itself to just sitting in front of the instrument panel (I use a non-skid sticky sheet to keep it in place and lean it against the instrument panel glass). It is pretty secure but probably would not survive a collision (but frankly not many mounts would either). I can use the device or my dedicated GPS to get speed so I don't care that it partially blocks the speedometer.

If I am using the Rocketfish window mount (long trips), I use a bracketron circular beanbag base instead of the window to attach the window mount suction cup. I angle the mount so the bottom of the bracket just touches the dash which provides some additional vertical stablity.

As an alternative you could use a vent mount - an though many people are reporting success with these - I don't like blocking my main central vents (not enough room on a side vent for me) plus I am wary that the weight of the S7 will put too much repeated stress on the vent slats such that they will eventually break. But I could be wrong.

I wonder how well the vent mounts work. Mine sem to move a bit if it are on a bumpy road, and the tablet isn't as light as my Palm PDA. I would never even think of putting that on my 72 Escort, as it has no vents! The beanbag sounds like a good alternative, or the window mount.

I got a Grip -It from Staples and tried it in the car. the tablet is not as light as my Palm, but the Grip-It was able to support the tablet without moving a lot, slipping, or falling off. The grips on the Grip-It were just wide enough to get the device in, and expanding the grips, probably held the device better. I only use my device in the landscape orientation, but will try it in portrait orientation sometime. I think most apps will be fine working in landscape.

On my older car, I will be trying to install a bracket of some kind to the frame behind the instruments, so I can mount the device to that as there aren't any vents in the same place as the newer car.

It's good that te Grit-It uses the T-mount system, so you can use other ways to mount te holder to the car or the windscreen, like the suction cup mounts.

Gah...

I had my S7 in the car today, made a sharpish turn, S7 went flying across the passenger seat. I need one of these.

You may want the beanbag style if all you need is the landscape view. Keep that on mind when you chose.

I'm not sure why it's so expensive, but on the other hand, you don't want to use a cheap holder for your $300 device, which has the weight of the S7 (it's not as light as a Palm PDA or a "cellphone.") the only other holder that I've found that can hold the S7 relatively safely is the GripIt from Staples ($21.)

I think I will buy this one, but not for a couple months. I just spent $400+ on the S7...

I like the Grip-It somewhat so far. It has the drip that you can stretch in both directions, so it has a wide grip and the foam pads are grippy too. It works well in the landscape orientation. But when I use it in portrait orientation, the S7 is just heavy enough that it WILL slip slightly every now & then.

I think if there is something a little better (stronger grip) than the Grip-It, in both orientations, then I'd get that. The slip-grip is like that, but it it doesn't use a T-mount, so I'm wondering it it will fit the metal bracket I installed in my car specifically for the tab.

I'm going to attempt to make a mount for the car and I would rather not use the same ball-swivel the others use. It uses a lock nut that is hard to turn with 1 finger while holding the mount in the desired position.

Instead, I'd like to use a swivel that doesn't use a nut to lock the ball, but something more like a lever that you would give a 1/4 or 1/2 turn to lock the ball. Does anyone have or know of such a thing?

I bought a generic holder made for a large GPS device and it's perfect for the S7, it's quite strong too. I bought it at my local electronics store here in Australia called Dick Smith, I guess it's similar to RadioShack in the USA?

*edit* I found it on their website: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/D5404/gps-windscreen-mount-holder

Hi Badsig,

The plastic nut on the swivel is what gives me reason for concern. I'm right-handed and I would rather keep at least one hand on the steering wheel while driving the Zed. I could always adjust it for the correct angle before driving off (which I do) but I am a bit concerned with the device moving on a rough road (like pot holes, speed bumps, joints, repairs, mostly on the highway) because it was not tightened securely, which requires both hands.

The reason I'm being particular on the mount features is because I will probably be rotating the tab between portrait and landscape for certain apps. Not all apps have an auto-rotate feature, and it may be more appropriate to use the other orientation. Therefore, I feel a more robust, wear-free, and lockable swivel system will be required to maintain the safety of my 1.2 LB/550g device.

Not only that, but it's a big sucker. But thanks for confirming my idea about a GPS holder. I'll keep an eye open for one.

I have some not-so-good news to tell.

After searching a LOT, it seems that beside the slip-fit holder, there isn't anything available for the Huawei S7, or any other similar tabs, like the Dell Streak. I even contated Proclip USA, who have made a effort to design mounts for particular popular vehicles like Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram trucks, Ford Escort and Honda Civic cars, and even holders for specific devices, like iPad and Samsung Galaxy tab. Their reply was just "we don't have a holder for you" so I think I will make an attempt at moulding some thick plastic over a wood buck to the size & shape of my device, then attach it to the car bracket.

It should at the east be stronger than the generic mounts, like the GripIt, so it can be rotated. The gripIt seems suitable ONLY for a tab in landscape orientation, and if you mount the tab S7 with the bottom holders flipped out to keep the tab from slipping down, the tab will simply fall out.

So I'm off to the city dumpster to scavange a suitable size piece of heavy plastic.
