I recently purchased a USB "car charger" specifically designed for the Asus Transformer Prime. It looks pretty normal but it's output voltage is 12 volts instead of the usual 5 volts on the USB connector. The vendor says that the Prime needs to the 12 volts to charge. Anyone know for sure?

Pete,

thats true, you need more than 11 volts to charge your asus transformer, and thats why you will notice your tablet do not charge when connected to your PC USB port...
so, 12V or 15V will charge fine, and it is needed because otherwise you will take about 16 hours to complete a charge using 5V...

a have been looking for a way to charge my asus eee transformer tablet, and it seems that it will charge in normal usb connectors, but without the charging indicator and only if the screen is off.

A standard USB port on a PC will be close to 3% charge per hour...
