Hello all,

Here are the files you need to push to /system/app to add Google calendar and Google Contacts to your Coby: http://www.mediafire.com/?xybs5e12n5c1xnk . You can also use Root Explorer to paste the files into /system/app but do not forget to hit the Mount R/W button at the top. Also make sure to set the Permissions to match the others applications, RW-R--R--. Once that is done reboot your tablet and you will have a new choice in your settings called "Accounts & Sync". Make sure that Sync Calendar, Sync Contacts and Sync Gmail are all checked. This tablet really does run smooth the way it is, just add root and Gapps and you are good to go.

jschill31 ,

Many thanks for posting these files! I have been trying to get the calendar up and running on my 7015 and was getting a little confused as to which files I needed.

I followed your instructions and used Root Explorer to move the files over. After a reboot, the calendar appeared as one of my applications and when I first started the calendar on the tablet it synched with my Google calendar. Everything seemed to be working very nicely. However, I have noticed that the sync seems to be one way only. Things I add to my tablet calendar show up on my Google Calendar. Things I add to my Google calendar are not being synched with my tablet. Any advice on what may be the problem? Also, even though the acountandsyncprovider.apk is in the /system/app directory with the correct permissions, I do not see an option for this when I look under settings. Could this be part of the problem? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with the one way syncing. I also tried to install the account and sync settings file and it said it could not install it.

Hello,

Start the calendar apk and hit the menu button for settings. Choose "my calendars" and verify that your Google address is checked. Also on the sync issue I have heard from a few people now that it is not showing up. Could be a firmware issue? Without knowing every apk in /system/app it is difficult to narrow down what you are missing. Maybe you could post some pics or type them out? I would certainly review them for you.

Hello,

You can not install it like a normal app. It needs to either be pushed using adb or placed in the folder using root explorer. Also check the same setting in your calendar as I just posted for the other user. I get 2-way sync within 30 seconds or so on my tablet but you need the sync settins option. Once you are successful at installing it you can find it by hitting the menu button while on your home screen and choosing settings.

OK, I tried this last night and tinkered until the wee hours this morning because if something isn't quite working the way I want it to I will go nuts until I fix it. Calendar is working fine, but I can't do a thing with Contacts. Force close every time. I'm also getting FC for gapps every so often now. Did a Google search and figured it might have something to do with permissions, so I went the fix_permissions route, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Watery kyros has working calendar and contacts. Also, account and sync settings works. Wait to get it until I post v1.2a tonight.

Still no bi-directional calendar syncing. Tablet to Google works but the other way does not. As far as I can tell, all the files have been installed correctly with the correct permissions. I have deleted and re-installed the AccountAndSyncSetting.apk a few times, done a reset and it still doesn't appear as a choice under settings menu. I am thinking I may delete all of the calendar files and start over. Are there any cache files I need to delete as well to do a clean re-install of the calendar?

May have to give Watery Kyros a try as I keep hearing good things about it. Only thing is my tablet is pretty stable at this point and the only thing I am missing in the other half of the calendar sync. Should I try the calendar.apk, calendarprovider.apk and accountandsyncsetting.apk files from the Watery Kyros build with my current Coby firmware? Will that make any difference or are they the same files as what has been posted?

Also, if I install Watery Kyros, will I have to re-install all of my apps?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you'll have to reinstall apps. There's a known problem with the browser in watery v1.2a (my fault). I'm going to try to get a new zip file up tonight or tomorrow to fix it.

Hello,

Sorry about the delay in response...my wife and I just had our fist child and I have been tending to her and my son the past two days. You can sure load Watery but I would use his 1.1 version for now. The problem is not the files I have posted it is something simple with your tablet. Without knowing what is all located in your /system/app folder it is a guessing game for me. I have done a lot of work on the x5 tablet before moving on to the Coby... I am just new to this forum. The Coby is also Telechips based so they are very similiar. There is just something conflicting that elliminates the app from posting to your settings. If you can send me a list of what is in the folder I will let you know what is missing. Wattery is a good alternative for users who are newer to Android which can be a ***** sometimes. Fixing something in Android often leads to breaking something else. Applications such as TI give users an easy way of deleting bloatware but will break other apps if not used properly. The dev of Watterly is deffinatly active in his thread so it does receive support. I even gave his newest build a run but I am a stock-look guy. I beleive I was the first to bring to his attention the issue with a couple of the apps but to his defence it is a pain to take ASOP and apply to Telechips! I would however look for good things to continue from him... If you like stock look but everything working I will help you. I have my tablet pretty tweaked but all based on the stock build.

Cheers

Just got my 7015, updated, rooted and gapps installed - nuttin else. Used term (su) to copy the 5 apk files to the /system/app folder and chmod to 644 like all the rest, rebooted and immediately got the notice: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.....".

I'm thinking that perhaps you might have something installed that we all don't that is needed for it to work. Just a guess, of course.

Getting excited for this though. Keep up the excellent work! Will provide anything you need to help figure this out.

Here's a list of files in my system/app folder....

hi...i'm just new to android system & i'm not familiar with the tech terms that you've mentioned above regarding RW-R--R-- or push the apk to /system/app and also i tried to unzip the file from my sd card and copy the gcal/gcontact, i was able to get the gcal but it can't synch eventhough i choose the right account and i have no luck seeing contact and account & sync in my home screen just the calendar. will it work if i install the zip using cmod, just like when i install my gapps? i really want the gcal/gcontact to work i hope you could help, as of the moment i'm using jorte for my calendar and another apps for my contact.

thanks

I did the following on my tablet (use at your own risk, of course). I get gapps errors on my table, so you may want to wait until this minor issue is fixed (probably a missing file on my 7015 or something simple).

1. Download zip to computer (Windows in my case)
2. Unzip and place into a folder on your desktop
3. Connect 7015 via USB
4. On 7015, you will see a message "USB connected (External)". Click this msg and tap "Mount".
5. On computer, open folder to the device (should pop up automatically if not altered).
6. On computer, create a folder called "ga" in the folder for the external storage (which should be the root of your microSD card, still in your 7015)
7. Copy the 5 .apk files from your PC folder to your sdcard folder (the ga folder created in step 6 on your mounted external storage from your 7015)
7. On computer, eject the drive to the 7015

--Everything else is now on the 7015--

8. In messages, tap on "Turn off USB storage (External)"
9. Assuming you have rooted your 7015, run the Term app and type su to get into super user mode (# will be shown as prompt)
10. Type: cd /system/app
11. Type: ls -l (that is "ell ess space dash ell")

You should see a listing of a bunch of apk files. The beginning of each line is -rw-r--r--
"-rw-r--r--" breakdown (first dash is for directory - would show a d) the next is three sets of rwx bits, one set for user, one for group and one for other)
r stands for read, w for write, and x for execute. These are file access permissions in unix.

12. Type: cp /sdcard/ga/* . (cp stands for copy. The period means "here" - so this says copy everything in the folder "ga" on the sdcard to here)
13a. Assuming no problems, type the following three commands:
13b. chmod 644 Calendar*
13c. chmod 644 Contacts*
13d. chmod 644 AccountAnd*

chmod means change mode. 644 is a bit pattern for rw-r--r--. Each set repeats the pattern "RWX" meaning READ, Write, Execute. 100 is binary for 4 (4+0+0), 110 is 6 (4+2+0) and 111 is 7 (4+2+1). So 644 would be (4+2+0) for User, (4+0+0) for group, and (4+0+0) for other.

14. Exit term and reboot the 7015.

Excellent description, this is a different way of doing things. Next time u are on terminal switch
To your /system/app folder and do a "ls" command to get a full list of what files are in the folder. I am not versed in terminal emulator but it should allow for some adb commands. Then u can start narrowing down to what is causing thw FC's. Could end up being Launcher Pro, my paid version has been acting up lately. I beleive my wife and son will be released from the hospital today so I will be home tpnight. I will plan on posting my complete list of /system/app this weekend for comparison purposes. I used my x5 files which I took weeks compiling.
