The space is used for /cache /system /data

really? that's too much space to be eaten by cache system and data. sad :( ..

i'm gonna sell this tablet and purchase a better one. any other brand you can recommend that doesn't eat much of its claimed storage??? anyone???

The system (Android) is using the bulk of that space and will on any tablet you get. What you're looking for is a tablet with more than 4GB of internal storage.

Guys, I've stumble upon another tablet in the office. The name is I Techie. It has 6 GB of storage but it didn't take 1/3 of the storage or 2.5GB for the system /data or cache to use.

Do you think there's something wrong with the Coby? how about other models of Coby? how much internal storage is used if it is not a 4GB-coby

Your coby is fine.. can you connect it as USB storage and right click on the drive then properties?

Because the coby mid7048-4GB only has 1.5GB of total space. If it is 4GB it should reflect something 3.++ GB right? and if the system should take some space, it should show the space taken right? just like when you buy a hdd of 120GB and installed an OS, it would show for example 111GB space free and the total space could be some what close to 120GB or 118GB. THat means 7GB was taken by the OS installation.

Here's a screen shot when you plug the coby 7048 as USB storage.

hay coby should recall these units!!! waaahh!

Android does take up the bulk of the space. You'd find this out by running the following commands through ADB.

Code:
adb shell
su
busybox df -h

Here's the output from my 9742, with 8GB of storage. Note the 1.2GB taken up in temp filesystems alone as well as the 2GB of space taken for /data and 500MB for the cache. Then you have the .android-secure folder in /mnt/sdcard which has a bunch of space reserved for it. On your tablet the numbers are likely going to be half that, but the point is that at a fair amount of the storage space is reserved for Android.

Code:
shell@android:/ # busybox df -h
busybox df -h

I'd say to donate it to a worthy cause...me. ;)

Just kidding. I wonder though if my roommate would want a 7" tablet given what she uses her 9742 for.
