customizing homescreen

anyone know how to add or remove icons from the homescreen? i only need 4 icons but somehow i cant remove the bookmarksks icons on my homescreen and its taking up all the room.... please help! im all about simplicity so i just need to know how to edit my homescreen. its an acer iconia a100.

Press on the icon you don't want, hold it until it "lifts" from the screen, a trash can will popup, drag it there.

Also, to keep new apps from appearing on your home screens, go to the market and tap the menu key (4 lines on it) and go to Settings. There is a checkbox for adding to homescreen. Uncheck and no more automatic shortcuts.
