DGM T-909S - External Hard Drive Not Recognised

Hi. I've just bought a DGM t-909S tablet. (Starting to wish I hadn't! ) Never had a tablet before. Anyway, it doesn't recognise my external hard drive. The instruction book with it doesn't say how to do it. I googled the problem but getting nowhere. Can anybody give me or direct me to a walkthrough of how to do this. Main reason I bought a cheap tablet was to watch films etc that I have on hard drive.

Hi. I'd like to point out I'm completely new to tablets. Not very experienced with computers of any sort actually.
Surely it doesn't matter what's on the external hard drive? According to the instructions with the tablet a USB flash drive can be used with it, though they are very sketchy. It's a USB storage device too, so that's why I thought an external hard drive could be used.
