Enabling USB Port on TEL7j

Hey anyone had probs with enabling USB port, Tried instructions and settings as per book Etc, says mounted then disconnecting, if check settings says UNMOUNTED again ????? Anyone know the mystifing Android secret to a supposed simple step of using a USB stick/Port ???
Please can someone shed some lite on this
