FIRMWARE RELEASES: firmware files, benefits and bugs for the Flytouch2 v2 /Superpad 2

This post is intended to keep track of firmware releases, known issues and known fixes. Please post comment on any additional firmware that you have tested for this device that is not listed, also any bugs or fixes that have been missed. NOTE: These links are not provided by me, but have been tested by me.

20110302 (Supposed Offical Manufacturer Firmware update #3)

- More speed increases from VM heap size optimization
- SD card access tweaks
- Some library updates
- Compiled a new busybox static binary (1.18.4) with all the trimmings, That should help with the Titanium errors and other things.
- Compiled a new WPA_Supplicant (from AOSP git repo) to allow for all WPA variants while keeping ad-hoc support. Compiles and runs fine but still does not scan networks properly - I'll come back to this.
- Compiled an entire AOSP kernel source tree (for the modules).
- Touch screen calibration comes up on first boot now
Issues:
- Some apps fail to install unless you remove the sdcard.
- Titanium Backup crashes when You try and restore some apps (Generally the ones that require sdcard removal)
- Flash is black and white and choppy
- Causes issues with pads with new screen 1024x576 resolution.

20110430 (Supposed Offical Manufacturer Firmware update #5 for 1024x576 pads)

- fixed installation failed error -18 requiring to remove SD card for certain applications (Angry birds...)
- backported 16GB tablet format partition fix for Market (refusing to install)
- added tun.ko kernel module for certain VPNs
- media scanning Off by default (use Gscript to activate it back, or use QuickPic for Pics and video browsing, and ccplayer for music, faster ! )
- internal SD card free space is now at /mnt/sdcard and external SD1 is at /mnt/sdcard/sdcard1
- ask before doing media scanning on SD card insertion

REMEMBER: Back up your device before doing any firmware updates!
Ensure it is a Flytouch2 v2 / Superpad II that you actually have: Most of us have pad Model: Disco. These firmwares DO NOT WORK with Model: SAWEE10 OR P041 (Commonly referred to as jpad and usually comes in a Superpad III Box) There is a totally different firmware set and method for updating the SAWEE clones. When i updated april 5 firmware mobile network doesnt work when open got error and close it

Market
If you're still missing apps in Market do the following:

- Connect at least once with Market & your account.
- Then go to settings => Applications => Manage Applications => All
- find Google Services Framework from the app list
- click on clear data + OK, then force stop

Reboot.
wait about 1 minute after you're back in.
Start Market again. (if it crashes, wait a bit and try again, it should go through )

Then you should see more apps after that, like google maps, Skype & such..

GPS
If your gps is stuck in Shangai or not updating,
you need to reset the agps data with the gps status software
in the menu => tool => Manage A-GPS state
do reset + download

Plug in your gps antenna, and let it run until you see it gets as many fix as it can,
wait even more until you see the latitude and longitude changing. (it should reset when it grabs 3-4+ fixes)
At that point you can run google maps and it should now have your correct location

 

I have yet to try this. It is sourced from the apad tv forums and was released in last 24 hours. A few users there have tried it and noted speaker output is still at low levels, and performance seems maybe a bit better. There is no official word on the fixes and or issues of this firmware as yet, but I will keep it updated here when I find anything out.

Words from the admin who posted the ROM: "It's currently under going testing, but I thought some users may want to test it out before it is approved"

Thanks for the feedback gundamboyx, I have asked other users for feedback on their android version also to confirm. I have some more feedback from another user, can you confirm the below?:
"I've tested the new firmware, it has a good video player (CC Player) but regarding to google account syncronization, it only syncs Picasa fotos and Gmail, callendar is not synced, i think it would be easy to implement that in the final release.
It also lacks the Develepment submenu in applications, the Update application still throws an error code.
I noticed an slight improvment in speed and touch screen response."

 

Connecting to adhoc wifi network

- Turn Off your wifi in the Settings => Wireless & networks
- Wait that it's Off
- Start the GScript Lite application
- click on "Ad-Hoc support drivers or original drivers..."
- Turn your wifi back on.
It will switch to the adhoc capable network.

Same procedure to switch back to the original driver.

If it doesn't seem to work, you might need a reboot.
Better not do the switch while you're using wifi too
Make sure to turn wifi off first.

3G / Telephony apps
The apps are deactivated by default in this rom, as to avoid unnecessary battery draining.
But there is a script that allows you to activate them back with one click.
- Start the GScript application
- click on "3G Telephony apps On-Off"
You should now be able to go to the Mobile network settings and it should be fine.
If it doesn't seem to work, reboot

It has been reported to work with the 3G USB stick E1750 so far.

Titanium backup
Enable USB debugging to ensure it works properly.

Shoutcast streaming
Android 2.2 doesn't support aac streaming, so with the default apps you won't be able to play the streams.
But there is currently a way around it, install the application 'TuneIn' from the market, and you'll be able to play all your streams with that app

How to Manually install "Google Sync Calendar and Contacts"

Find the download link at the very bottom right with Google App version "CyanogenMod 6" "HDPI version". Download the file. Unzip and find these two files.

Download these two app to the /local folder of the FT3

Open Mypad application.

Browse to the files and double click them and allow to install.

You must remove your sdcard when you install angry birds (And any other app that does not install properly). This will fix your issue.

 

I have 20110419 (CUSTOM ROM: thechillhacker, Based Off his 0413 ROM) it and can not open any more pictures .... ... what can i do ?

 

you need to install a gallery app. EG: Gallery 3D. You can get it free from the market.

 

so i got my pad today
model disco
version 20110316
kernel ver 2.6.32.9
build frf85b

and everytime i try to update the firm to tims 3b it says update.... then i see a lil penguin up on the left top corner and then it starts up normal to the 316... it seems to skip it any ideas?

 

nvm its working now i had changed from using the 16gb it came with for a 1gb and it seems to be working now does it still display 316? firm
