Headphone connectof

Thrive headphone/mic connector question...
What is the wiring config of the mic/headphone connector?
Wouldn't 4 connections be required for stereo&mic plus ground?

From another forum, the best I can tell is the connector is an either/or option: headphone or mic. Not both simultaneously. I would be pleased if that's wrong, but it seems to be the general consensus.
