linux user here, new to android besides a few times i've borrowed a friend's phone for a google or two. Getting cheap 10" cyberus mostly for a touchscreen ereader than anything else. Otherwise I've got ubuntu, debian or slackware on any given device. Still having a hard time understanding why so many versions of android are about. Maybe someone can direct me to some version notation theory for android development.

There really are only three major flavors right now, Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb. 2.1, 2.2/3 and 3.0.
