I've downloaded a file (actually .pdf of user manual) and would like to put it on my home screen. There are instructions all over the place how to create a home screen icon for an App, but how do I create an icon for a file?

    Thank you!

You cannot actually put a file on a homescreen, it is just a shortcut to it.
It depends on the file manager you are using. For most of them, find the file you want to add the shortcut to. Long press and choose to add to homescreen. In ES File Explorer you long press the file, then tap the menu key in the bottom right and add to home screen.

Thanks for you're unbelievably prompt reply. Well in fact I had tried finding the file and doing a long press, but the only option it gave me was to drag the file.
    Am I missing something?

What file manager are you using? My favorite is ES File Explorer from the Play Store followed by File Manager HD.
