How to switch tasks?

Holding down the "Home" button doesn't bring up the last 6 tasks. Is there another way to do this? I want to switch quickly between several running applications.

Are you holding the physical home button on top of the case or the on screen home button? If I hold my finger on the on screen home button for a few seconds, my tasks come up. Holding the physical button does not do this for me.
