Is it possible to use sd for apps to install to

II was thinking about running my 8042 from my sd card, but i lack a computer right now. can i modify a file (vold.table i think) to make the system use the sd card to install apps to. Thanks.

Your title is a little confusing. You can install apps FROM external storage like an SD card but not TOO external storage.
