Has anyone tried to use a male-to-female USB adapter with the USB charging cable to use as a USB adapter (with USB drives, etc.)? Seems technically feasible, but wanted to see if anyone has tried it.

I have looked into it but there appears to be a cross over of pins in place for the usb adapter and the stock charging lead so it would not work unless you where to modify the m–f adapter. Good call though!

So, I bought a female-to-female (not male-female) USB adapter, plugged in a card reader, but nothing. So, now I use that adapter to extend the USB charging cable. Oh well...
