    It primarily turns off the WiFi. It's a good way to keep apps quiet when the tablet is sleeping.

    Airplane Mode disables the wireless features of your cellphone, laptop or tablet in order to comply with airline regulations. In this mode, cellular networks — voice and data — are disabled, as are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and near-field communication (NFC). It also allows your device to charge faster / discharge slower when enabled, since the drain on the device is reduced.
