nc rooted. w 1.1 .... internal storage question

I have noticed in several articles that the cn has 8 gb of internal.

When in the android system 2.1 mode, i only find 1gb of internal storage capacity.
what should i have within android 2.1 ?

The Nook Color has an 8GB internal storage and it is partitioned this way:
-5GB partition used about for active android OS, installed apps, and your stuff (1GB is dedicated for installed app space)
-3GB hidden partition for stock recovery utility and stock restore images

mine only shows 4gb internal so i was wondering the same thing.
