New to Tablets and Android

I am new to Tablets and Androids and do not know how to root and not really sure what rooting means. I have been reading on the forum for the last couple of days. I just got the Sylvanina 7in yesterday and I am trying to figure out what apps I need to make this tablet and little faster and get android market. It came with 2.2 on here. I did the update lastnight. It currently has Slideme. I want to put the Kindle app on here but not sure how to do it.
