Well, we didn't quite report on this, but the Barnes & Noble Nook Color is easily one of the hottest Android tablets to hit our shores in recent months. Despite being marketed as an e-book reader, the 7" Android 2.1 device is probably one of the better hardware configurations for an Android tablet you can get at the price of $250, provided that you don't need Android 2.2 or Adobe Flash any time soon.

It just got root access, and modders are proceeding to install all sorts of Android goodies on it such as Angry birds and Launcher Pro. XDA and Nookdevs have the information you want on this. The process is a little involved, but it's not too difficult to pull off for those who have the Android experience.

Too bad it runs Android 2.1. It has one of the better screens compared to many Android tablets in the market. It may never get an official Android 2.2 upgrade, but who knows?

Specifications include:
TI OMAP 3621 Cortex A8 at 800 MHz
720P video playback support
1024x600 7" IPS screen
512MB RAM
8GB ROM
G-sensor
Wifi b/g/n
