panimage pandigital ereader

I bought this unit for my wife for christmas and am not what you would term computer literate.. sigh.... i have downloaded astral file manager and air, but when they finish downloading, i press on them and they say the same thing: no file available to open it. I even downloaded pandigital novel upgrader exe and have nothing to open the file with. What am I doing wrong, i am ready to pull out the last of my grey hair..... Thanks kindly for any help i can get here.
