How do you get books on there now? If you use a card - you can just drag pdf files to the card. Get a reader that reads them.
The only time you need Adobe Reader is DRM protection. If the pdf isn't DRM protected, use whatever PDF reader you want. EZPDF works.
Books usually have DRM. Most other publications for information do not. I have quite a few pdf downloads from the national parks, etc.
I can also write my own PDF. Most office suites now can do that. I happen to use Adobe Illustrator since I can edit and lay out the way I want, not just convert.

Of course weezyrider is correct, you can use any PDF reader. I didn't want to complicate matters so I suggested the bog standard Adobe one.
