ok, here's a few things I've noticed since I've reset my tablet to factory settings....its working a bit better now after the factory reset. For example, the built in video player now scans the sd and finds videos just like the built in audio player does for audio. Plus, it lets you veiw saved videos full screen and switch between 4:3, 720 and 16:9...
The other thing I noticed is that now when I put a usb flash drive in the usb port I get a notification that its mounted and can access everything thats on it via file manager...I think it's because I made the taskpanel app autokill a couple things I shouldn't have before.

Steps for Factory data reset

first backup all apps and docs to sd card then under settings->sd card & mid storage is factory data reset. BE SURE TO PLUG INTO POWER BEFORE STARTING FACTORY RESET. It will come up all in chinese after reset, so before you do the reset make sure you memorize the location of settings->locale & text so you can set it back to your language.
After it resets the first thing it does is come up to the calibration screen, touch the + in all corners and middle. Then go to settings->locale & text and do top choice to set locale and pick your language from the list....
Other thing to do after reset is click and hold in a text field and choose input method then android keyboard, because the default keyboard is not as good.

My aPad is within our borders, so I'll probably have it in my hand today/tomorrow. I'll take pics and (given time) try to put some kind of video together. Just praying it's not one of those pre production units that seems to be of varying quality.

Yesterday my iRobot/aPad arrived. First impressions:
  • Good stable construction, but something (I suspect the battery) is rattling around inside the casing.
  • Battery is nothing to brag about. A couple of hours tops.
  • The resistiv screen is so-so to be kind. It's not uncommon for the screen to pick up a press somewhere completely else from where you actually pressed, especially if you try to press fast. Scrolling is also difficult. Often a scroll swipe is interpreted as a press with undesired results.
  • 2 USB-ports, but just one is active. It can be switched between slave (to hook up with PC) and host (connecting USB gadgets like memory sticks (and, according to the on disk manual, 3G modems)) using Settings
  • microSD-slot, 3.5mm audio och hardware buttons for screen on/off, Back and Home (which in fact act like the Menu button on my Android phone)
Preinstalled applications:
  • Alarm Clock
  • APK Installer
  • Audio Player
  • Browser
  • Calculator
  • Calendar
  • Email
  • ES File Explorer
  • ES Task Manager
  • Facebook
  • Global Time
  • GMail
  • Google Maps
  • Google Talk
  • HiMSN
  • Market
  • NC Manager
  • PDF Reader
  • Photo Browser
  • QQ (Game in Chinese)
  • Settings
  • Skype (Beta)
  • Video Player
  • Weather Forecast
  • YouKu (Game in Chinese)
  • YouTube
  • 2 more games in Chinese

The obvious omission is Contacts, which I haven't even been able to install "by hand".

iRobot can be accessed via ADB (Android Debug Bridge for you who are unfamiliar with Andoid SDK) but the system partition can't be made writable, even if the adb command adb remount returns remount succeeded. You still can't push anything to for instance /system/app: Read-only file system. Just now I discovered this to be due to the fact that the system partition is cramfs, a readonly file system which can't be made writable no matter how much you try.

Hi guys, I am very interested in purchasing a tablet, specificially this one for when I travel next month. I will be out travelling for about 3 months and want something small that I can use to watch a few movies/tv shows on and browse the net when I get to a wifi connection. A cheap android device seems to fit the bill perfectly, although I would like some clarification on some things I have read about this device:

- Does it use SD cards or TF (not sure what TF is tbh, am I right in thinking these are microSD's with a max capacity of 16gb?
- Can I connect a USB flash drive to it and access video files over the USB?
- Is it possible to connect a camera to android over USB and view the images on the large screen?
- Does this device have Bluetooth? Maybe to use a BT keyboard as while I dont intend on typing much on it, the use of an IM program would be nice to have a quick chat to friends back home and the resistive screen doesnt seem ideal for this.
- If it doesnt have Bluetooth how about a USB keyboard, would this work?
- I see it is listed as have a webcam. Is this true, just on the images I have seen I cannot see it on the front or back and wondered if it did in fact have one and maybe it is just hidden in the black bezel.
- If it indeed does have a webcam does Skype for android support webcams?

Sorry if some of these seem basic, I'm new to android. Also it can be sometimes hard to search and find concrete answers for these cheaper chinese clones.

Thanks.

microSD true, max capacity unknown.
- Can I connect a USB flash drive to it and access video files over the USB?
Haven't tried (lacking a proper cable) but with the USB port set to host mode, this should be possible.[
- Is it possible to connect a camera to android over USB and view the images on the large screen?
Same as above - a Camera basically appears to the host as a "mass storage unit"
- Does this device have Bluetooth?
No, but again - depending on what the USB port in host mode is capable of, it might be possible with a small BT dongle. Manuals even hint at the possibility to use USB 3G modems
- If it doesnt have Bluetooth how about a USB keyboard, would this work?
Same answer again - May work in host USB mode.
- I see it is listed as have a webcam. Is this true
No, no camera in the device I got anyway.

Contacts.apk from good ole' JesusFreke's ROM JFv1.51_CRB43-ADP.zip was possible to both install and run. Just have to wait for a wifi connection to see if it imports my Google contacts.
On the sad side, it seems impossible to tether the iRobot/iPad over wifi with my G1
