Greetings there,
I'm Wishdream and I wanted to share how to root the Coby Kyros Rockchip processor class.
I hope I can help the community for those who are having a hard time. Especially with those who has the MID7038 model.

Tested devices

  • MID7038-4

1.) Setting up your tablet

  • First, download this: http://adbdriver.com
  • Connect your Android to your PC via USB.
  • Make sure you have USB debugging on.
  • Now, run the program you just downloaded.
  • Install the driver when your device is detected by the device program.
2.) Rooting your device
Alright, to get things going. I made it very simple and very easy. BUT, I'm 75% sure the root will not be finished by one fact that the system mount space for the MID7038-4 is FULL and PACKED thanks to useless programs in the factory firmware. If this case happens, I shall write an alternate batch file that should delete some of the programs and free some space. Feedback is important.

  • Alright, simply download this: http://d-h.st/P3F
  • Then run Root.bat
  • Follow the instructions on the batch file and you're DONE~
  • Be sure to check with Root Checker
  • If the Root is not successful and contact me immediately.
3.) Flashing Clockwork Recovery
Please check if your device has ROOT by using Root Checker. This will not work unless you have ROOT.

  • Download the file provided in the ROOT step
  • Run CLOCKWORK_RECOVERY.bat
  • When done, manually reboot the device.
  • Congrats, you successfully flashed Clockwork Recovery
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU HAVE BRICKED YOUR TABLET. I'm sorry if you did.

Always happy to help, be sure to post a thanks or your experiences in this thread.
Happy Rooting~!

Hi, many thanks for starting this thread.
I have followed your method to root my MID7038. And running Root.bat on my device, reboots it several times during process but without any success.

Hi, looking at your root script, it calls adb remount, this command is not possible on any stock Coby that I own or have seen. To get the command to work one needs an unsecure boot.img. Coby boot.img is secure. Have you been able to root your Coby 7038 with the instructions you posted?
Can you upload your boot.img? I would like to see it.

Anyway best of luck to you.

Help with what? As far as I can see this doesn't work on Coby tablets, the OP hasn't responded back so My guess is it doesn't work.
Hold on, I'm not dead yet and I want to help. I'm currently backing up my tablet so I can grab the boot.img.
Will send it soon.

Strangely though, the root does work on my Coby tablet.
I'll see what's the problem.

Sorry if it took WAY too long for me to respond. I was out of depression at that time.

Here's my boot.img of my stock android. I'm pretty much sure it's stock, I bought it fresh.
My model is the 7038-4.

This boot.img has been modified to unsecure meaning you can adb remount, not stock boot.img for any Coby I have seen.

This boot.img is rooted, meaning all you have to do is adb remount, from there you could adb push su and chmod it, no need for the root method you posted as your boot.img is unsecure.

Others can't get the method you posted to work, cause their boot.img is stock ie secure, so adb remount doesn't work for them.

Press any key to continue . . .
remount succeeded
