Ever heard of a tablet with the model number LG-V510? Us neither, but if a new leak is to be believed, it’s definitely an identifier that you’ll want to keep on your radar. According to @evleaks, the LG-V510 is a tablet device that is an upcoming Google Nexus product. An image shared by the prolific leakster shows a database entry containing both the model number “LGV510″ as well as a Buyer listing that reads “USG/GOOGLE_OPEN_16G (UNITED STATES).”

So what exactly is the LG-V510? Unfortunately, much of the device’s true identity is shrouded in a thick, Android-green fog. The V510 was spotted getting its Bluetooth SIG certification back in October, and at that time it was suggested that it could be a variant of the LG G Pad 8.3, which launched a few months ago with the model number LG-V500. However, we’ve yet to see any concrete evidence to support that theory. The news that the V510 may be a new Nexus tablet is definitely enough to get our ears to perk up, though.

An 8" nexus would be a logical move. But would it steal too much from nexus 7 sales ?

Some files on LG’s own OpenSource Code Distribution website appear to have revealed the V510′s true identity.

Redditor “numerlo” today posted a link to an entry on the LG OpenSource Code Distribution site for the LG-V510. Included with the entry are source code files that, which downloaded and unzipped, contain documents labeled “LG-V510(G-Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition)_Android_KK_V510_10d_Kernel.tar” and “LG-V510(G-Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition)_Android_KK_V510_10d.Android.tar.” That suggests that the LG-V510 is a Google Play edition of the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet that launched earlier this year with an 8.3-inch 1920 x 1080 display, 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and 4600 mAh battery.
Earlier this year, Google began selling the Google Play edition HTC One andSamsung Galaxy S 4 in the Play Store, giving consumers the opportunity to buy HTC and Samsung’s flagship hardware with vanilla Android in tow. Now it looks like the LG G Pad 8.3 will get the same treatment. While not quite a Nexus device, a Google Play edition G Pad 8.3 would presumably still run stock Android, giving tablet shoppers an option that slots between the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Now we just need an official announcement from LG or Google about how much this in-betweener slate will cost.
