IEEE 802.11ac is the new WiFi Standard under development and the specifications looks awesome.
The theoretical max throughput is 1GB/S and 500MB/S with one link. It comes with QAM Modulation and MIMO. The first chipset for retail routers were introduced late last year and several vendors have developed Chipsets for mobilephones and Tablets.
With this kind of bandwidth you would be able to stream multiple HD video's over your home WiFi network or back up all you data to a WiFi enabled HDD extremely fast.
