I am really pulling my hair out here. All this good info, but it ONLY works on the SYNET7LP!
Who here has the SYTABEX7 like me and has gotten ANYTHING here to work on it?
I think at this point in time, with the Tab not seeing the Internal memory that IS all free, and not letting me install any apps, I am out my $99 once and for all.
Multiple Emails to Support have gone unanswered. I think any request for info on the SYTABEX7 gets deleted automatically because they know the EX7 is "as is" and can't be saved or upgraded!
Really ready to go on an Uber Rant.
HELP ME!!!!!

ANY ONE WITH A SYTABEX7 PLEASE JUMP IN AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE WORKING!!!

Do you have a SD card installed? When you say nothing is working, can you be more specific?

I have one of these CVS tablets and dont have any technical issues at all, outside of when I install the available update it doesn't seem to change anything. Then when I go back it still says there is an update. It has limitatons but every thing else is working fine.

I've been unable to directly download anything to my tablet so I have used some workarounds that seem to work pretty good.

I have pulled my mini-sd card and plugged into my desktop to download pictures, PDF Ebooks, and MP3s.

I use Droid Reader to view the PDF books and have just finished reading red badge of courage. I have an I tunes account so just periodically transfer songs to my tablet for train entertainment. I can use my tablet to show my friends the latest upgrades to my Mustang. The WIFI has always worked great and pretty speedy so I can take my daughter to any number of places and cruise the internet while she plays with other children.

I would say that despite its problems, like the inability to download directly, the workarounds and the things that work make it a bargain at 99.00.

What program are you using while attempting to dl files to the tablet? I've had no issues dl'ing files from the default browser or any file manager that I use. I would suggest either using ES file manager or File expert. You can set up an ftp or smb (samba) share in both. I will post dropbox links to both later and you should be able to dl them from the browser and then install.

EDIT:

Here are the links to 2 really good file managers.

ES File Explorer:

I just bought my SYTABEX7 from CVS Pharmacy yesterday.
I have never owned an Android OS device, and was pretty impressed for the price.

If you notice, a lot of people on the internet shoot the device down, but in most cases, I think they are spoiled by their Android phones with faster processors, better screens, hardware, ect. For those who just want a simple internet browser and to use them for music or videos, it works great. Yes, it is a little glitchy, but can't complain for the price.

For me, I am mounting the device in my vehicle, and attaching it to my stereo via. the headphone jack -> RCA input.
This allows me a nice multimedia device in my vehicle, and I don't have to spend $300-$1000 on an in-dash DVD player.
Plus, I can take it out of my vehicle any time and use it anywhere.

So, back on teh subject of SYTABEX7 problems.
- USB ports not working
- Can not update to the newest firmware through Updater

I called the manufacturer / support Digital Gadgets / 1-888-571-0866 and got the following help.
I explained that the firmware would not update through the Updater, and I had tried several times. I also told him the USB problems.
He suggested that I send the unit to them, and they would gladly upgrade it to the actual SYNET7LP at no cost.
They even provide a shipping label, and take care of the unit for you. I can handle being without this device for a week or two, and get the HDMI out, plus the update firmware.

They are working on the Android 2.2 and other updates for the devices.

I would suggest to everyone, call the number above and get your unit upgraded.
It doesn't cost you anything, and you will be a happier Sylvania tablet user.

I got a CVS 25% off coupon in my email and being curious about tablets, I used my coupon to buy a Sylvania Mini Tablet Express for $75 a few days ago.

Ok, I read JPardee's post on this forum and tried calling DigitalGadgets but got voicemail as today is a Saturday. So I sent DG an email with my problems concerning the USB ports and the Updater not working.

I reread st0ne's post and noticed that his emails went unanswered. Sigh! So I'll wait until Monday to try calling DG again on their 1-888-571-0866 number.

Like JPardee, I have never had any experience with an Android devices until a couples of days ago. Heck, I still use an old flip phone. Here is what I can do with mine.

1. I can use it to view NASCAR Leaderboard. Nothing fancy, but it does a good job giving me the running order of the Nationwide race today.
2. I use the Sky Fire browser to read the NY Times online. There are also a couple of other news related apps that I have downloaded from Slideme and installed too.
3. Speaking of the Sky Fire browser, it has a number of nice entries preloaded in its bookmarks file.
4. Kinda slow, but functional is the Dolphin Browser which I downloaded. I use Dolphin to view this forum

Less functionality than my Dell Linux netbook but more web functions than my old Nextel cellphone provided I am at a WiFi location. I'm hoping that I can send mine in to get the USB ports fixed.

I waited a while to buy a Tablet. As iPhone user I have been a bit spoiled on the screen sensitivity but with the 25% Coupon at CVS, along with another $9 worth of Extra care bucks this came in at $72 WITH TAX. I could not resist such a deal.

My main purpose for this tablet is to read training materials in PDF format rather than printing stacks and stacks of pages (what a waste). It is nice to browse on a larger screen but the iPhone does the trick fine and is a bit easier to lug around. I will see on my next long flight how well the battery behaves while watching videos. I have grown tired of watching TV shows on the iPhone and its small screen. Don't worry I do not use iTunes. I sync custom created MP4s (which work nicely on this as well) via some free file transfer apps from the App Store. I LOATHE iTunes.

I think I will follow others' lead on here and call DG about this upgrade issue. It appears to do nothing for me as well.

I did scan some other posts and turned off a few settings, especially the Internet time check, which boosted the battery a bit (I think).

I would really love to learn all of the tricks, hacks, whatevers to get the battery to last as long as possible.

Take care!

I have found that the SAM app store is horrible.
So far, I have been using the Amazon App Store, and it has just about everything that teh Google / Android Market has.
Did some comparing with a friends Galaxy phone, and was able to find every app he had.

One thing to note, the firmware update will allow you to utilize a lot more apps if you use the Amazon apps or another.

I have just tried downloading apps from slideme 3.5 and downloading books from the laputa program installed on the desktop. Neither has worked. Will try your suggestions.
Thanks,
