How save is a tablet for collecting emails and doing online payments in a Wi-Fi spot. Having just bought mine, I would hate to get caught out because of my ignorance. I assume that I need a firewall and antivirus for the tablet as much as I do for the laptop?

I wouldn't do any banking on a public wifi, assume the worst and do banking on a trusted wifi.

Thank you both. I wouldn't do any internet banking as such, but I may have to use public wifi for booking accomodation online with CC. It is not always possible to get a data sim abroad.

Would you consider a firewall a good idea even on a trusted wifi? I guess there isn't much differance between tablets and any other computer system when it comes to security needs, is there?
