Time for a Coby Generation 3 sub-forum

With Coby pushing out an entire range of new Telechip based Generation 3 tablets, I think it is time for a Coby Generation 3 sub-forum. While Generation 2 was based on the Samsung S5PV210, it seems that the next wave of Coby tablets (all of which I listed below) will all be based on the Telechips 8803, which is unfortunate as this means they have actually taken a step backwards in power as the Mali200 GPU in the 8803 is said to be noticeably slower than the SGX540 used in the S5PV210. But none the less, that is what Coby has chosen to do. In terms of design it looks like they have definitely stepped it up for Generation 3 with better button layouts and improved form factors. There is sure to be a wave of new users (like me!) who will be looking for support for their new tablets (android market/CFW). Below are the 7 new tablets currently listed on Coby's website:

Coby MID7127 - Capacitive 7 inch (800x480) 7" Android 2.3 Multi-Touch 16:9 Widescreen (Capacitive) | COBY

Coby MID8127 - Capacitive 8 inch (800x600) *not yet listed on site but revealed in the MID7127 User Manual (pg 8)*

Coby MID7125 - Resistive 7 inch (800x480) 7" Android 2.3 Touch 16:9 Widescreen (Resistive) | COBY

Coby MID8125 - Resistive 8 inch (800x600) 8" Android 2.3 Touchscreen 4:3 (Resistive) | COBY

Coby MID1125 - Capacitive 10 inch (1024x600) 10" Android 2.3 Multi-Touch 16:9 Widescreen (Capacitive) | COBY

Coby MID1126 - Capacitive 10 inch 4:3 (1024x768) *iPad Clone* 10" Android 2.3 Multi-Touchscreen 4:3 (Capacitive) | COBY

-----

Coby MID7012 - ARM11 Based Resistive 7 inch (800x480) 7" Android 2.3 Touch 16:9 Widescreen (Resistive) | COBY

Again, all of these aside from the MID7012 are based on "Telechips Cortex A8 1GHz" which is most likely the same Telechips 8803 used in the MID7022, but with such a wide range of tablets releasing it would be a good idea to have a dedicated area of the forum for development with this new chipset.

I think the labeling of "Generation" should be drop and just use specific CPU name.

Well,

My tablet is 7022 and it has Telechips Cortex A8(ARMv7) with GPU Mali-200.

So it means my tablet is G3? I think no.

Best regards,

Afonso Lage.

The 7022 was part of Generation 2, but it was the odd one out. That must have been the only capacitive design they could get. The 7127 is the Generation 3 version of the 7022. It has the same internals, but they changed the button layout so you have a real physical volume control and they placed the android navigation controls on the front but moved them up towards the top so you don't hit them with your hand 7024 style. I plan on getting the 7127 myself soon, I'm just going to wait and see if the price lowers on Amazon by Black Friday.

I concurr. We need some root and rom development for the new devices. I am itching to root my mid1125 and install honeycomb or a more tweaked gingerbread rom, the factory rom is slooooow. There is some good news though, it seems the Coby Kyros is compatible with Adobe Flash Player 11 if you install the regular Android Market.

Definitely, is anyone here a dev? I would love to learn more about android and possibly help with rom development. How difficult is linux to program in?

My 7022 had problems, so I returned it and got a 7127. You wont be unhappy. See my response to Suepedia about the few complaints I have.

Try tutorials for 1125, 8125, 7125 or even 7022. They should work (all have the same CPU and Android OS).
