Would my tablet use a thumb drive through a micro USB to USB converter?
Most tablets use a special OTG cable to connect a thumbdrive, mouse, etc. OTG is the key phrase. If you go to amazon, search for OTG cable.
I just bought one on E Bay. How would I find my files on the drive?
The same way you find them on your sdcard or micro-sd. settings/storage or file manager. The drive should mount automatically. You should unmount in settings before removal.
Wow! It would be neat if that worked. We'll see.
Doesn't work. I don't think the thumb drive mounted. I can't see it. Any suggestions.
Take a look at Media Importer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&hl=en
It's Paid app, before use. You can try the photo viewer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&hl=en

Hi Astrix. I bought the app. Installed it. Plugged in my memory stick through the OTG cable. Nothing happened. I can see all the images on the external sd card, but can't see the memory stick at all. Do you think there's something wrong with the cable?
Don - It would be helpful to have the complete description of your tablet. As tpaine indicated, most tablets use the OTG cable, the operative words are "most tablets."
Thanks Musing. It's an HP Slate 7. It runs Androd 4.1.1.
Final answer. The HP Slate 7 does not use OTG. Live and learn.

You're welcome, Don!
HP says it opted for using micro SD cards for mass storage and did not build in the OTG adapter.
