Want automatic period & next letter CAP

I'm brand new to Android (been using iPhone & wife's iPad at times) Wirth those thigns you get an automatic period after dbl spacing a sentence and next letter CAP.
Will Galaxy do the same? How to set up?

Settings->Language & Input From here you can edit the input settings for your keyboard. I know the default Honeycomb keyboard does auto-cap, but not sure about auto-period. You will have to try it out.

I downloaded the Slide-It keyboard (free). It does auto-cap and auto-period after a single space. I love this keyboard.
