Hi all,

I'm new here, so have question.

What is Android, is it an operating system or a brand of phones? Or do manufacturers pay a licence to use the Android brand/software/hardware?

Best wishes,

Simon

Hi Simon,

Android was originally developed by Google. It's an operating system for computers like Windows, Linux, IOS, etc., that are incompatable with any of the others. Like Windows there are many different versions, some of them incompatable within the OS. Android uses the same file format as later versions of Windows, so that data can be copied between the two systems though programs are not transferable and will not work that are not specifically designed for the machine being used. For Android though, some of the phones or tablets can have both the Android OS and Win CE on board.

Hope this helps clear up your confusion.
