I believe you can download the Amazon Appstore from the Amazon site. Go to your settings and find the Unknown sources (probalby in Apps or Security) and tick the box.
Then install the Amazon Appstore. Here is the link for the download: Install Amazon® Appstore
If that works, you can also get apps from AppBrain and Getjar.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately you can only get apps from B&N unless you root your tablet to access apps as Frederuco indicated. Fortunately for you the Nook Color is very simple to root an customize. You can even run the standard Android OS from the micro SD card if you don't feel like changing anything in the internal memory.
