Zenith Zt280 c91 USB port

Just got my new tablet. After installing a 32gb micro SD card(TF), I attached the USB cord from the tbalet to my PC (Win 7 64 bit). nothing happens except for 2 dirve icons in Win7 directory( not accessible). I placed some files on a usb flash drive and was able to copy them onthe Micro SD card(TF). and this works fine. The problem is I can't get the USB cable work completely with my PC. Any suggestions. All other information I've read indicates this should work smoothly as do my cell phone and my Sanei n10 -110.1 inch tablet.... both tablets are Android ICS ver 4.0.3

This problem happens even though I press the 'turn on usb connection' at the bottom of the screen that appears when I attached the mini USB cable and I am not using the very small ehternet connection.
